| What to Wear (suggestions) | |
| Smooth/Standard dances: | |
|
Men: Dark slacks with dark shoes and socks. White dress
shirt with tie or black or grey turtleneck.
Women: calf-length dresses or skirts. If you have dresses that are longer, make sure that your feet can be seen at all times. |
|
| Latin/Rhythm dances: | |
|
Men: Colored shirt or black/grey turtleneck. The rest is
the same as standard dances.
Women: Wrap-around skirts with top or cocktail dress. Make sure that your dress or skirt is not too tight, and that it allows for plenty of movement. |
|
| N.B. - Costumes are not allowed to be worn by any non-adult competitor. Costumes are defined as tuxedos or professional ballroom attire. Couples, however, may wear matching outfits. | |
| Please, please, be tasteful and considerate when choosing your attire. A little modesty would be greatly appreciated. | |
| Judging |
| For judging, the Continental System will be used, in which all competitors at a certain level will dance one open dance, after which they will be called back into A and B flights, according to skill levels. First, second and third place will be awarded in each flight for every dance. |
| Dancer Levels | |
| Beginner: Dancers with 18 months or less of formal experience. | |
| Advanced: Dancers with more than 18 months of experience. | |
| Semi-open: Open to both beginning and advanced dancers. | |
|
To preserve the integrity of ballroom dance and the spirit of
fair competition, we ask that all dancers register in the
category which appropriately describes their degree of
training. We will make some allowance for partners at different dance levels to dance at the beginning level if the leader is a beginner. |
|
| Team Competition |
| The Team Competition will feature four couples from each school, regardless of level, who will compete in the following dances: |
| Waltz, Tango, Swing, Cha Cha |
| No one may dance in more than one of the team competition dances (i.e. you must have eight separate dancers). The dances will be scored separately, and after the scores are tallied, the winner will be awarded the traveling trophy, and the top three couples in each dance will receive ribbons. |
| Romeo and Juliet |
| Your partner will be chosen at random. Couples will also be separated into A and B flights after the first round. This is a great way to meet other competitors and to have fun dancing! |
| Registration |
| Two types of registration |
| Early Bird: If you register before March 02, 2000, you will receive $2.00 off the regular price of admission. Plus, you will save yourself (not to mention us!) the time and hassle of registering on the day of the event. The entire team from one school need not register early -- if you are still unsure about the attendance of some members, those who are definitely coming may register early while the others may register on the day of the event. |
| `Day-of' registration: Those not registering early must register between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM on the day of the competition. |

| Cost of Admission |
| Competitors: $8.00 per person for Early Bird registration (before March 02), $10.00 per person if registering on the day of the event. This gains admittance to the competition as entry to all of the dances. |
| General Admission: $5.00 for adults, $2.00 for students with a valid college I.D. |
